Walter R. Barisonek Appointed to Chair Supreme Court Professional Responsibility Rules Committee
July 28, 2010
Porzio, Bromberg & Newman P.C. is pleased to announce that Walter R. Barisonek has been appointed by Chief Justice Stuart Rabner to the Supreme Court Professional Responsibility Rules Committee (“PRRC”) as Chair effective September 1, 2010. Judge Barisonek, Of Counsel to the firm and former Union County Assignment Judge, will be the first non-Supreme Court Justice to chair the Committee.
The PRRC was established in 1997 to review and report on referrals from the Court that relate to the Rules of Professional Conduct, and to review and report on procedural rule changes affecting professional responsibility-related committees. The Committee may also entertain and act on issues raised by, and suggestions from, the Bench, the Bar, the Office of Attorney Ethics, or any member of the PRRC, sua sponte or on behalf of the committee he or she represents.
Judge Barisonek joined Porzio upon his retirement from the bench in 2009. He works closely with the firm's appellate, mediation and alternative dispute resolution practices. Judge Barisonek also calls upon his past experiences both as Assignment Judge in Union County, and in private practice, to work on real estate matters, especially in the areas of land use and real property litigation, redevelopment, COAH and condemnation issues, including mediation of issues pursuant to Whispering Woods. Judge Barisonek also serves as an advisor and mentor to the firm's other litigation practice areas including complex tort, education, employment and labor, environmental, professional liability, products liability, and attorney ethics.
