Law Schools – Expand Our Spectrum

“By diversifying our team, we strengthen our ability to serve the diverse community within which we work.”

Each year, Porzio’s Summer Associate Program includes a first-year law student from the Rutgers School of Law–Newark’s Minority Student Program (MSP). The Rutgers program, which traces its roots to 1968, provides socio-economically, educationally or culturally challenged students with mentoring, internships and academic support. More than 2200 Rutgers students have benefited from the program’s aid. Porzio is proud to support the MSP and has gained several attorneys through participation in its initiatives.

A recent Porzio venture takes our involvement even further. In 2008, we introduced the Porzio Public Interest Fellowship, a stipend provided to a Rutgers MSP student in a summer-long public service position. Our first recipient worked on appellate issues in the Essex County Prosecutor’s Office. As a member of the Prosecutor’s extensive internship program, the fellow also participated in many field trips, including outings to the County Medical Examiner’s Office, Police Academy, County Prison and Third Circuit Court of Appeals.
